Growing in God's Love
As a ministry of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, we aim to provide excellence in education and to share God's love with young children and their families.
Committed to Excellence
The preschool at St. Matthew Lutheran Church began in 1972 as a co-operative nursery school with a firm commitment to helping each student reach their unique potential intellectually, socially, physically, and spiritually. After 40 years of service to the community, we remain dedicated to providing excellence in education and faith formation in a safe, nurturing Christian environment. While we have changed the co-op piece of our program, we maintain the strong partnership between the parent and teacher as a top priority. We continue to strive to provide what is best for children developmentally and academically to best prepare our students for the next stage in their growth. We remain committed to the ideal that “play is the work of childhood” and that is how children learn best.
What's New at St. Matthew Preschool?
100th Day Circus
Come one, come all, to the 100th day of school! What a way to spend the day celebrating 100 days of learning and fun. Numbers were the stars of the day! We enjoyed fun math centers and counting unlike any you've seen before! It was the best show on earth!
Teddy Bear Clinic
We enjoyed a fun morning learning with the healthcare professionals at Upper Chesapeake. As part of a good health and hygiene unit, our three year old students, "treated" their bears with care. We learned about the tools and materials our docs and nurses use to keep us healthy and to heal our bodies.
Field Trip to Harman's Farm
Field Trip to Harman's Farm
We love our annual trip to Harman's Farm and this year did not disappoint!
Each year we learn about the power of a single seed and what it needs to grow into the delicous fruits and vegetables we enjoy. We had perfect fall weather to enjoy a hay ride out to the pumpkin patch, pumpkin picking, and exploring in the hay maze. We enjoyed a fall treat of cookies and apple cider, as well as being together for this fun fall event.
We are grateful for our preschool community! Thanksgiving is a special time to share a meal and celebrate tradition. We love when our families can get together and participate in the fellowship and learning.
Christmas Program and Party
This year our 3s performed a special Nativity play reminding us all of the reason for this beautiful season: Our Lord Jesus Christ. We enjoyed singing some new Christmas songs and some old favorites. Our 4s performed the Nutcracker for us to enjoy a little Christmas magic. A special time of fellowship followed our program, fun making gingerbread houses, and visiting the train garden.
